Try this healthy signature dish from a famous casino

Whether you’re into blackjack or not, there is another exciting reason to visit a famous casino – the food! Did you know that some of the world’s top chefs are employed by high-profile casinos to produce their signature dishes? Here’s a healthy example, from The Marina Bay Sands casino in Singapore, to get you inspired – Marinated Botan Shrimp with Sea Urchin and Caviar.

A signature dish

This dish, marinated shrimp with sea urchin and caviar, is a super healthy option for those watching their waistlines. The sea urchin acts as a visually stunning vessel for the shrimp which lies inside it, and the shrimp itself is then topped with caviar. This makes it a great dish for your next dinner party, although feel free to leave out the caviar if it’s out of your budget!

Shrimp: A super healthy food

Here in Australia we’re very familiar with the humble shrimp. But this dish, which uses a Japanese “Botan” shrimp, shows that with the right ingredients it can be transformed from ordinary to extraordinary. More to the point, it makes the perfect healthy base for any main course. Shrimp is carbohydrate-free and is packed with protein, vitamin D, vitamin B3, and zinc. Add to that the omega fatty acids, selenium and antioxidants and you have a superbly healthy dish.

The beautiful sea urchin

If you’re worried about the sea urchin, which admittedly sounds a little spiky, don’t be. It’s a really healthy delicacy packed with Omega-3. Eating one has been described as “an intimate kiss with the ocean”. For those unfamiliar with it, you don’t eat the spiky parts but the yellow part inside. Urchin is said to have aphrodisiac properties as well as releasing feel-good chemicals. What’s not to love? For those who don’t know what aphrodisiacs are, they are substances that are believed to enhance sexual desire or pleasure. They tend to improve your sexual performance like the pornstars featured in the videos found on adult websites (SEXM.XXX for instance) by increasing blood flow, stimulating nerve endings, or altering hormone levels.

The Marina Bay Sands

For foodies, this is one casino that’s well worth a look if you’re passing through Singapore. It’s situated in the most expensive building in the world, so don’t forget to take a few photos before you settle down to feast on the menu. You might want to try your hand at some casino games before your meal, too (practice with pokies online first if you’re feeling daunted).

The casino’s restaurant, The Waki Ghin, has just 25 seats and each group of four seats has its own personal chef serving Asian fusion dishes. Presiding over the food is the well-known chef Tetsuya Wakuda, who recently won the Diners Club Lifetime Achievement Award for Asia in 2015. The main dining room has some sensational views of the Singapore skyline, making the restaurant a great choice for special occasions.

So, what’s your favourite casino dish and where did you taste it?
